Liz Hawkins is a compassionate, knowledgeable, and kind UNAC/UHCP Secretary who constantly goes above and beyond to get the job, any job, done right the first time. She mentored and trained me patiently with most of what I know as a member of the Board of Directors. She is the member of the team you can call on at 3 AM and she will pick up the phone and resolve your issues. If Liz does not have the answer to your problem, she always knows someone who does and will guide you in the right direction. When you are overwhelmed because you are new to something, Liz is the go-to person because of her patience and empathy. Liz brings kindness and joy to what she does as union secretary, and I aspire to be as efficient as her. She is very conversant with the ins-and-outs of our union contract and constitution, does not cut corners, and will not compromise on her values. She delivers all the time! Vote Liz Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP State Secretary at our up-and-coming 2022 convention!!
Semanu Mawugbe, RN – UNAC/UHCP Board of Director, former KPRNA (Pan City) Officer, and active Steward
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter in support and to endorse Liz Hawkins for our UNAC/ UHCP Secretary. I have known and worked with Liz for over 12 yrs. in her role as Affiliate Contract Specialist, fellow Officer, and in her role as the UNAC/UHCP Secretary. Liz has always been a person who is professional, reliable, resourceful, and consistently puts our members first. She is also extremely knowledgeable and has done an excellent job in her role as Secretary over the last several years. She adheres to all ethical and professional guidelines set forth by the UNAC/ UHCP, NUHHCE and AFSCME Constitutions.
The one thing I can say without a doubt is that Liz Hawkins is a genuine and honest person, this is a trait that I have always admired about her, and this has never changed. Therefore, without reservations I endorse Liz Hawkins for our UNAC/UHCP Secretary, she is highly competent and is the right candidate for the position.
Sincerely, Kellie J. Brooks Former KRRN-UHCP (Riverside) Clinic President and current Affiliate Steward September 2022
I have had the pleasure and opportunity of working as an affiliate officer alongside Liz Hawkins for several years. I have personally witnessed her strong work ethic. Not only has she been a great mentor to me but has also been an outstanding representative to Registered Nurses.
Liz’s many accomplishments and contributions include: advocating for Workplace Violence Prevention, maintaining KP Ratios, championing the hiring of break relief Nurses, and gaining the respect of fellow nurses as well as management.
Her “make it hurt” motto has accomplished so much. She is passionate about her work and our union. Liz has the skills and experience needed to lead as our State Secretary.
I am confident Liz is a great leader and will represent UNAC/UHCP well in all capacities of her role.
Liz = Quality, Integrity, and Commitment
Teresa Sagal, RN – former KBPRNA Hospital & Clinic President
I have known Liz Hawkins since 2015 when I first became a KBPRNA officer. Liz was my staff rep. She is a great mentor and guided the team to improve the voice of the union, brought the then-team to equal basis with management, and bargained numerous things for the benefits of KBPRNA’s membership. It was a great loss to KBPRNA when Liz became UNAC/UHCP’s Secretary; we knew that our loss is the state office’s gain. Her change in role has not changed her commitment to the Union, nor has it change her love to help to grow the Officers.
I had reached out to Liz many times during the last 2-3 years when I was faced with the challenges and the frustrations the pandemic had brought to me. Her response was always positive, encouraging, and to the point. Liz, like all of us, have been through some very challenging times – especially in the last couple years. She wields her commitment and love for our Union to power through the obstacle’s life throws at her, stayed focus on top of her duties as our secretary, and was instrumental in our bargaining.
Liz has been a registered nurse for 30+ years. During those years, she has been in various roles in her nursing career with Kaiser Permanente and UNAC/UHCP. She understands the ins-and-outs of both organizations, and most importantly, she cares about us. With Liz, what you see if what you get. She is smart, hardworking, has integrity, and is honest. Our union is faced with unprecedented challenges currently and will face even more tough times in the future years as the healthcare system continues to evolve. Liz is a great asset that we cannot afford to lose. Please vote to re-elect Liz Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP’s Secretary.
Thank you,
Wen-Chi (Wendy) Chang – KBPRNA Clinic President
If you have any interest in knowing that the role of UNAC-UHCP Secretary is not just in good hands, but great hands, then you should consider voting for Elizabeth Hawkins RN.
I am a retired nurse and officer from the Riverside Affiliate, and I have had the pleasure and wonderful opportunity to work alongside of Elizabeth and have witnessed her grow into the labor leader that she is today. Whether it was as an ER nurse, contract specialist, staff representative or secretary for UNAC/UHCP she has always been a strong advocate for our healthcare members, patients and the community in the various capacities that she served in.
I am confident that she will continue to be a strong champion for health care and the union and will continue her role in the spirit of honesty, integrity and excellence.
Machelle Bailey, RN – retired KRRN-UHCP (Riverside) Member and former Officer
Elizabeth is a very driven and thorough person. When she sets her mind to something, she not only accomplishes it, but exceeds expectations. She is definitely the person we want to represent us as UNAC/UHCP State Secretary.
Laurie Delgado, RN – KRRN-UHCP (Riverside) Member
My name is Hortencia Arriaga, former KRRN-UHCP Hospital President, and I am in support of re-electing Elizabeth Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP State Secretary. Liz has always been a member advocate. She has spoken up about various issues like Workplace Violence Prevention and has taken all of our concerns to the region for resolution purposes. She has also proved to be an invaluable resource to our members, always making herself available to them. This is why I have no doubt that she will continue to make a great State Secretary. We need a strong leader. VOTE Elizabeth Hawkins for State Secretary
Hortencia Arriaga, RN – former KRRN-UHCP (Riverside) Hospital President
I have known Liz Hawkins for almost 40 years. I know firsthand her work ethic, integrity, and the commitment she has to her nursing career and her family. I have watched her challenge herself over and over, stepping out of her comfort zone and succeeding in whatever she takes on. She approaches her union work every day with the same energy, drive, and passion she has had for years while working with patients and fellow colleagues. She is always striving to make things better. Liz has always been known for her organizational skills, her dedication, and her friendly demeanor; but also for her perseverance because she never quits! I know she is committed to UNAC/UHCP and to all members. She will take on this role with the strength and grace that she always displays. I highly recommend Liz Hawkins for the job of UNAC/UHCP State Secretary.

It is an honor and privilege to support Liz Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP State Secretary. I have witnessed her dedication and drive in presenting our cause as Healthcare Professionals. She has been instrumental in presenting the need for a safe workplace in hospital industry standards. She has testified at Cal OSHA hearings to create legislation to decrease violence in the workplace by mandating the reporting of incidents by the hospital associations. She is the person with the drive and tenacity to make our workplace safe, to ensure we have adequate staffing, to respect and honor the agreements we have fought long and hard for, and to promote the ideals of fairness, equitability, and responsibility in these and all other endeavors. I would ask that if these tenets are important to you, and your bothers and sisters at work; support your family, your patients, and healthcare, by voting for Liz Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP State Secretary.
Jonathan Bestwick, RN – former KBPRNA Clinic President
I am writing in support of Elizabeth Hawkins for UNAC/UHCP State Secretary. I am an Assistant Sheriff with a local law enforcement agency in Southern California and a local city councilman; I know what it takes to manage issues, develop policies and procedures, and most of all lead people. Elizabeth is honest, credible, trustworthy, and most importantly, she has integrity. Of her many strengths, her organizational skills standout the most. She has organized and managed many events where I have been privileged to participate. I have known Elizabeth for over 25 years, and she possesses all the qualities it takes to be a great leader. On a personal level, Elizabeth has been married for over 35 years and has raised two wonderful and successful daughters. They often find themselves doing activities they have watched their mother do for years and comment they could not have been successful without her guidance and love. I know Elizabeth will continue to be a great UNAC/UHCP State Secretary, because she has what it takes to hit the ground running and has the passion to represent the organization with pride and perseverance. Please vote to re-elect Elizabeth as your UNAC/UHCP State Secretary
Ed Delgado – Assistant Sheriff and City Councilman
Elizabeth has been a dedicated nurse, leader, and union activist for quite some time. She has served as a dedicated Emergency nurse at Kaiser Riverside, a contract specialist, an affiliate vice president, a Staff Rep for the Baldwin Park affiliate, and our current State Secretary. She communicates well with members as well as managers and directors. She is a great mentor and resource for information when you need it. There are countless reasons why Liz is qualified and should have your support. I can assure you that she will be your champion and your voice at the UNAC/UHCP State Office. Vote Liz Hawkins for State Secretary, you will not regret it.
Edwina G. Fisher, RN – former KRRN-UHCP (Riverside) Secretary
There are so many positive and inspirational things I can share about my mother. The most significant that comes to mind are her strong and persistent work ethic. She is an extremely dedicated and organized individual – more so than you and me combined—and, ultimately, an all-around genuine person.
She has been a UNAC/UHCP union activist for the last 20 years. When she was given the opportunity several years ago to work as a staff representative, you could visibly see and hear the passion she had for her work as well as the commitment she felt towards the union and its members. It was as if she had finally found the job she was born to do, she had found the place she was meant to be, and I honestly believe she loves every minute of it.
I could not think of anyone that could have a bigger heart or be more capable to fulfill the position and perform its duties better than my mother. When she puts her mind to something, she dedicates 1,000% of herself to it.
Vote for my mother, Liz Hawkins, for State Secretary. She will not let you down!
